NOAA record 5324439 ↗Strong southwest winds gusting to 66 mph (57 kts) near Wahweap and 60 mph (52 kts) at the St. George Airport caused some damage. The airport was closed after a wind gust caused the landing gear to collapse on a taxiing plane. There were no injuries. Other damage in the area included a blown-off roof, a blown-out window at Dixie college, and a business sign being torn off and damaging a nearby car.

The lightning strike also injured 4 other members of the Flame-N-Go's firefighting unit from the Utah State Prison's Lone Peak facility. The leader of the crew was not struck, but suffered from extreme shock.

He was flown to LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City where he was in critical condition. He later recovered from his injuries.
