The avalanche ran about 460 vertical feet over a distance of 700 feet, and the snowboarder was carried about 400 vertical feet over a distance of 600 feet at speeds up to 45 mph. The snowboarder was buried up to 3 feet deep for an estimated 35 minutes.

U.S. Highway 89 was closed from the time of the event until 8:58 pm on July 28, 2019, as highway crews cleaned up and repaired the damage.
